In its remarkable 7th year, 'A Peter White Christmas’, always upbeat, fun, and entertaining returns to Northern California! This year, eight-time Grammy Award nominee Jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum has been invited to spice up the holiday season with Peter White and Mindi Abair. Kirk's is a stellar solo career including his breakthrough album 'For You' that spent nearly two years at the top of the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart, Whalum has also recorded with legends Al Jarreau, Barbra Streisand and Quincy Jones and was also featured on Whitney Houston’s unforgettable recording 'I Will Always Love You' on the soundtrack of the 'The Bodyguard'. Saxophonist/Singer/Songwriter, Mindi Abair, has not only set sonic trends but has broken all the boundaries as she continues to define the less traditional future of jazz. Mindi has five successful major label solo releases to her credit, including her current album, 'In Hi Fi Stereo', which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart. Abair’s own brand of ‘pop and soul meets jazz’ adds a refreshingly unique voice to an exciting new generation of crossover artists. For nearly two decades, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular at the same time accessible to all.
A Peter White Christmas started back in 2005 as a duo featuring Peter and Mindi toured all over the country. Rick Braun joined the dynamic duo adding his own stylish trumpeting flair to the mix. Peter, Mindi, and Rick toured through 2008, took a break in '09, and then jumped back in for 2010. The new lineup featuring Peter, Mindi, and Kirk will bring a new dimension to this highly anticipated show!
Peter White:
For nearly two decades, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop, and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience. Born in 1954 in Luton, a small town north of London, White learned his first chords on an acoustic guitar and had decided by his late teens that music was his calling. Barely a year after his first professional gig, he joined Al Stewart's band as a keyboardist for a 1975 tour and contributed to the album Year of the Cat, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a 20-year association with Stewart. In the '80s, White also contributed to the launch of Polish singer Basia Trzetrzelewska's illustrious career, playing on her 1987 debut album Time and Tide.
After fifteen years as a backup musician and session player, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous. He followed with three albums on the Sindrome label before signing with Columbia for the 1996 release of Caravan of Dreams. He maintained an ambitious release schedule through the `90s (and continues to do so today), but he also found time to appear on recordings by many of his friends, including Dave Koz, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Jeff Golub, Lee Ritenour, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, and many others. He has also established his annual Peter White Christmas Tour, fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007).
In a career that spans more than three decades, a dozen solo recordings, and countless performances, White insists that it's the faces in the crowd and the fans that keep the experience fresh. "The idea that someone can write me an email and tell me about something I did on a record that was released fifteen years ago - you can't buy that. That's priceless. That's what keeps me going - the idea that people out there really care about what I do, the idea that I've made a difference for someone." White's 12th solo recording, Good Day, came out in 2009 on Peak Records.
