► A New Direction
With his astounding guitar technique and sultry rhythms, Jesse Cook is a master of the contemporary rumba flamenca sound. Tracing this musical tradition from its roots in Cuba and South America to its present Spanish home, he smoothly blends the many influences into a bewitching sound that has propelled him to the forefront of this international style. Audiences at Jesse Cook's live shows in Canada, the U.S., Asia, and points beyond are quickly placed under the spell of his intoxicating rumba flamenco, highlighted by passionate guitar work, Moorish rhythms, and Cook's smoldering on-stage presence. Part of the global consciousness and diversity in Cook's work comes from his background. Born in Paris, raised in Canada and Spain by filmmaker parents, early on he developed tha habit of blending different world music strains.
The Blue Guitar Tour, in support of his eighth studio album The Blue Guitar Sessions, is a new direction for Cook. He has steered clear of anything resembling flamenco on this record, producing a sound that allows listeners to appreciate each musician’s contribution. To do so he also battled his natural instinct to fill in space.
"It’s a big departure from the work I have done in the past," he admits, "and there’s a fear that if you do something drastically different, will there still be someone there to listen to it if you change?"
Audiences will soon discover how well The Blue Guitar Sessions translates to live performances. The live shows will include songs from more familiar work as well as material from the new album. Joining Cook on stage are the musicians that have become as familiar to fans as Cook himself: Chris Church, Rosendo 'Chendy' Leon, Nicholas Hernandez and Dennis Mohammed.
Cook has been recording and performing music internationally for over seventeen years. He is a JUNO Award-winning artist and three-time recipient of the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for 'Guitarist of the Year'. His previous release, The Rumba Foundation, debuted at #1 on iTunes Canada and the DVD for the release premiered on PBS. With over one million album sales worldwide.
Latin Grammy Award-winning rumba flamenco guitarist, Jesse Cook, is praised for his fiery, passionate guitar, Moorish rhythms and bold, energetic stage shows. Considered to be one of the best representatives of modern flamenco music, Cook is the only artist ever to have simultaneously dominated both the smooth jazz radio charts and Billboard New Age charts. His latest release The Rumba Foundation has been called ‘smoldering, spicy and deep – his best album yet.’
“Cook’s execution on guitar is precise in every note and phrase. He is always a wonder of prowess to take in.”
